Toy soldiers today have little in common, possess none of the innocence or playfulness they once had, it seems, ages ago. Today’s toy soldiers, like G.I. Joe and similar monstrosities, are the simulacra of killing machines: insane projections of what their designers think children need to cope with the modern world.
