Toy soldiers today have little in common, possess none of the innocence or playfulness they once had, it seems, ages ago. Today’s toy soldiers, like G.I. Joe and similar monstrosities, are the simulacra of killing machines: insane projections of what their designers think children need to cope with the modern world.  

I picked the letter ‘W’ because it is the first letter in the English word WAR. It is an ominous letter in this respect because of all that wars can be or were. I am joining the letter with the very common imagery that is now associated with war - on television, in the cinema, magazines, etc… guns are treated like toys, police and soldiers [...]
